Xi-Omega's Business Journal

The first ever Xi-Omega Business Journal was published on October 1st, 2008 by the Professional Committee. The Business Journal is intended to be utilized by the brotherhood to further their professional development. It is also a great idea to help in recruitment and as a sponsorship incentive. The first edition of the Business Journal consisted of professional events, business news editorials, and a Watercooler section.  The journal is published on a monthly basis with a committed article or section from each Professional Committee Member.

Corporate tours, speakers, and workshops are recapped in the journal to offer brothers that were not able to attend the specific event an insight on what they missed. Included is a list of upcoming professional events and dates held by the chapter. There is also a list of any events and workshops offered by the university. This gives the brotherhood one general location to learn about all professional opportunities available to them.

The business news editorials allow brothers to express their professional opinions on business news stories. It is a great opportunity to develop a professional opinion on a variety of topics. Throughout one's career you'll often find yourself chatting with coworkers and clients on all sorts of topics and with a practiced opinion it will help impress them.

The Watercooler section of the newsletter asks the brotherhood a professional question and gathers readers’ responses in the next issue. Each month presents a new question. Similar to the editorials, this allows brothers to participate and express their opinions without making a commitment to a monthly article. It is also helpful in displaying readership, which will provide an extra nudge when using the Business Journal as a sponsorship tool.

The Business Journal is a great tool for sponsorships, offering another way to communicate the sponsors message to a mass of people. The journal also consists of a Sponsor of the Month section so we can highlight their efforts and show how much we appreciate them. It is also great to mention any companies within event recaps that they may have contributed to.

Currently, the content of the Business Journal is kept within the Brotherhood. As the journal develops, we are looking at creating an additional edition. One of the editions would be geared directly towards the brotherhood and contain brotherhood only events as well as all other content. While The second edition would be geared more towards business students within the university. With the second edition, we are looking at distributing it at our student union and within our business buildings. This will increase the value of the Business Journal as an asset to the chapter. It can then be used in recruitment efforts and advertising the Alpha Kappa Psi chapter. This will also add additional readers so sponsors will have a wider audience and a greater incentive to give to the chapter.

I wonder if this could be extended to the Galley?
